The watch only has two buttons. When you press both buttons at the same time and then release them, the watch will ask questions in Arabic or English at the bottom of its display. In the color photo on our home page, the watch in the middle is asking "PRAYERS?" in English, meaning "Do you want to display the prayer times?"  The watch on the right is displaying "PRAYERS?" in Arabic.

While the watch is asking a question, you may answer:
    "Yes", by pressing the right hand button; or
    "No", by pressing neither button, in which case the watch will ask another question in two seconds.
That is really all you need to know in order to operate the watch. There is nothing to learn or remember. It is a unique, "user friendly" method of operation.

For example, you could tell the watch that you had moved to Jeddah by answering "Yes" when it asked you these questions:
    SET?
    CITY?
    NORTH AMERICA?
    USA?
    PACIFIC?
    SAN JOSE?

When you first buy the watch you must set the date and time, as you do with any other watch. In addition, you must tell it where you live.

The watch can then compute the position of the sun, moon and true north and can literally point towards Makkah relative to these things.

For example, if you wished to find the Qibla (direction of Makkah) relative to the sun, you would answer "Yes" when the watch asked

these questions:
     DISPLAY?
     QIBLA?
     FROM SUN?
 

The watch would then display an arrow on its screen for six seconds. You would turn the watch around until this arrow

pointed towards the sun. Then another arrow would appear on the screen, pointing towards Makkah.

The watch has no built-in compass. Compasses are inherently inaccurate, especially within buildings and in mountainous areas.

Instead, the Al-Asr watch is able to compute the Qibla, because it knows where the sun, moon and north are positioned at the

current time.

In various parts of the world, devout Muslims use slightly different interpretations to compute prayer times, particularly the times

of Fajr and 'Isha. The watch will use the appropriate method automatically when the CITY is chosen, so most users need not

concern themselves with these slight differences.

The prayer times given by the watch were compared with over 10,000 official prayer times all over the world, and found to be

exceptionally accurate. Differences were usually within two minutes and never more than three minutes. These discrepancies

resulted from differences in the latitude and longitude chosen as the official location of a city, not from inaccuracies in the

watch's calculations.

The watch was also checked against the official astronomical tables of several governments. Its times for Shorooq and 'Isha

agreed exactly with the times of sunrise and sunset, in every case.

The Qibla is computed to an accuracy of within 3, 2 and 5 degrees relative to the sun, north and moon, respectively. The

exact direction of the Qibla is shown in degrees on the display of the watch, while an arrow points in that direction.

Over 180,000 Al-Asr watches have been sold with no complaints about their accuracy!

• All Al-Asr watches are now bilingual (Arabic and English in each watch).
• All men's watches have ELD (Electro-Luminescent Display) which makes them much easier to read at night.
• A two-tone watch is a combination of shiny "silver" and "gold". There is no real gold or silver in the men's watches.
• We achieve the same appearance using chrome, polished steel and titanium ion plating.
• Ion plating looks exactly like real gold but is much more resistant to wear.
• Metal bands are always the same type as the case; e.g. two-tone band with two-tone case.
• We offer two styles of metal band: style A has parallel rows of links (e.g. the middle watch on our Home page);
• Style B has solid links with semicircle features (e.g. the left-hand watch on our Home page).
